1. | Determination of Thermal and Acoustic Properties of the Fibrous Sheath from the Palm Tree Livistona Chinensis as Potential Insulating Material for Panel Application Jobim, Silvie Janis M.; Dilly, Jaqueline; Lauren C. Duarte International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 11 Issue 1, pp. 1-9, February 2018. ABSTRACT The search for thermal and acoustic comfort in residences, associating the energy efficiency with materials from renewable sources, makes vegetal fibers a viable alternative, since they are easy to obtain and found in abundance in nature. There are thousands types of fibers with still unknown characteristics and, in this context, the present work aims with the thermal and acoustic characterization of the fibrous sheath of the Livistona chinensis palm, and thus collaborate with information that may indicate possible applications for the development of new insulation products. The fibrous sheath of the Livistona chinensis palm was characterized by tests of Sound Absorption, Thermal Conductivity and Infrared Thermography. Results obtained from the thermal and acoustic experiments demonstrated comparable properties to those of commercialized materials. Based on these results, associated to its formal aspect that allows its use in natura, the fiber might be used for the application in panels, in order to improve indoor environmental quality, with respect to thermal and acoustic comfort aspects. |

2. | Situation Analysis of Rural Road Maintenance Management System in Madhya Pradesh- A Case Study in Jabalpur District based on Road Conditions Patel Ghanshyam, Dr Khatri Rajiv, Dr Yadav Shalini International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 11 Issue 1, pp. 10-21, February 2018. ABSTRACT Construction of rural roads brings multifaceted benefits to the rural areas by way of increase in agricultural production and the size of markets, better prices for agriculture produce, reduction in transport costs and the creation of off-farm employment opportunities. They also provide access to medical and educational facilities. Provision of rural roads is an effective element of a poverty reduction strategy. Rural roads form a large share of the total road network. If these roads are not maintained, the benefits disappear. Keeping these roads in a serviceable condition is crucial to the agricultural growth and affordable means of access to millions of rural people to social facilities such as health and education. Subsequent to a series of regional level workshops organized by the Ministry of Rural Development, and a series of overview studies supported by the World Bank on rural road maintenance in a few states, several areas for improvements in the delivery of maintenance have been identified. These include resource mobilization, maintenance planning, technology, implementation, monitoring and capacity building of local workers. Accordingly, to undertake a detailed situation analysis of rural road maintenance in Madhya Pradesh fieldwork was carried out in 28 Roads, four roads in each seven blocks of Jabalpur districts based on Road Conditions in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The finding of this study will be highly useful to preserve the benefits of huge rural road assets created recently in India. |

3. | Combined Treatment of MSW Leachate S.R.Mote, A.N.Vaidya International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 11 Issue 1, pp. 22-28, February 2018. ABSTRACT In the recent past, the quantum of solid waste is growing at an alarming rate due to growing population, urbanization and industrialization. MSW is a non-homogeneous mixture of solids, which cannot be put back to any use without proper processing. MSW, if not managed properly, leads to serious and long term environmental consequences particularly ground water pollution, due to generation of leachates from dumping sites & Landfills. Treatment of MSW leachate is thought as important step since the inception of MSW 2000 rules. In coming years management of MSW and its leachate is going to be a major environmental issue. As there is no specific treatment methodology available for leachate treatment this research work was focused on developing a treatment methodology for MSW leachate so as to meet the requirements of Schedule IV of MSW 2000 rules for disposal of leachates(5). In this work an attempt has been made to study the feasibility of treatment of leachate by a novel anaerobic reactor treatment combined by post treatment of effluent from this reactor in membrane reactor. |

4. | The Self-Healing Concrete - A Review Poonam Ghodke, Swarda Mote International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 11 Issue 1, pp. 29-34, February 2018. ABSTRACT Concrete will continue to be the vital component for infrastructures due to its first-rate properties such as easy availability, low cost, durability, strength and convenience to cast. It can withstand the compressive forces but it is prone to cracking due to tensile forces which in turn results in the reduction of the overall life as well as increase in the vulnerability of the concrete structure. Curing of the concrete increases the possibility of cracking due to the fluctuations in the humidity and temperature. With the aging of the structure, brittleness increases as the moisture content decreases. Retrogression of the reinforcement steel bars due to introduction of corrosive chemicals through cracks, frost damage and water leakage are some of the problems encountered thus pinching the pockets and making the maintenance and repairs costlier. An expeditious self-healing crack mechanism is required which causes the decline in the chemical intrusion, thus dwindling the corrosion and thereby increasing the service life of the concrete structure. In this paper, an attempt has been made to re-mediate the cracks and fissure in the concrete by employing Microbiologically Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP). The method results in enhancing the strength and durability of the structures by healing the cracks through microbial activities which happens to be eco-friendly. A review of this technique for future commenced use has been discussed. |

5. | A Novel Topology for the Enhancement of SEPIC Converter using Snubber Circuit Kamal Singh and Kuldeep Sahay International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 11 Issue 1, pp. 35-45, February 2018. ABSTRACT A novel topology for the enhancement of SEPIC converter using snubber circuit is presented in this paper. There are different snubber circuits available in power electronics which reduces the switching losses during turn-on and turn-off. Here passive regenerative snubber circuit is used to extract the maximum output in the converter. For achieving this condition, the technique used is non-dissipative snubber circuit. The working of non-dissipative snubber circuit based SEPIC converter is explained. The simulink models of the boost converter, ordinary SEPIC converter and proposed snubber circuit based SEPIC converter are analysed and simulated in MATLAB Simulink. The output voltage and current results of the different simulink models of these converters are summarized. The behaviour of the different converters is found which shows that snubber circuit enhances the efficiency of the system in comparison of the other converters. |
