1. | Dipole Shaped Array Antenna with Defected Substrate Structure Vu Van Yem and Nguyen Ngoc Lan International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 10 Issue 4, pp. 463-472, August 2017. ABSTRACT In recent years, microstrip antenna has been widely used thanks to its some advantages. However, it has some disadvantages such as narrow bandwidth, low gain and low efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel dipole shaped array antenna model using defected substrate structure (DSS) in order to improve antenna parameters. The array antenna consists of 16 dipole shaped elements in the first substrate and a DSS in the second one. DSS is an etched periodic or non-periodic cascaded configuration defected in substrate. The electrical length of microstrip line can be changed without changing its physical length by adding inductance or capacitance thanks to the use of DSS that creates parasitic capacitors. With the characteristics of DSS, it can improve some planar antenna parameters at the same time. By using DSS in the second substrate for antenna design, not only the bandwidth and efficiency of antenna are improved, but also the gain and directivity of antenna are enhanced. The array antenna is designed for X band application at a central frequency of 10 GHz. The proposed array antenna with DSS is designed, simulated and fabricated on Roger 4350B substrate with thickness of 1.524 mm, er = 3.48, tand = 0.0037. The bandwidth percentage of array antenna is over 22% while the gain of the proposed one reaches 12.2 dBi. In addition, the efficiency of the proposed antenna gets around 92%. The simulation results are obtained using CST Microwave Studio software and they are compared to measurement ones to verify the performance of the proposed array antenna. |

2. | Shunt Hybrid Active Power Filter Using PI and Hysteresis Current Controllers for Power Quality Improvement Aizad Khursheed, Shubhranshu Vikram Singh, Abhishek Jain International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 10 Issue 4, pp. 473-483, August 2017. ABSTRACT This paper presents the performance of Shunt Hybrid Active Power Filter (SHAPF) for power quality improvement in terms of harmonics and reactive power compensation, and power factor improvement in the distribution network caused by nonlinear load. In the proposed control method, the compensation process is based on sensing of source currents only. A Proportional Integral (PI) controller is used to extract the required reference current from the distorted line-current, and this controls the DC-side capacitor voltage of the inverter. The shunt Hybrid APF is designed with shunt APF and shunt connected single tuned passive filters. Shunt APF is implemented with PWM-current controlled Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). The switching pattern is generated through hysteresis current controller. The performance of the filter is investigated under steady-state as well as transient state conditions. |

3. | A Compact UWB Antenna using IDCLLR and Parallel Slit with Triple Bands Notched Characteristics Pritee R. Dhonddev and Veeresh G. Kasabegoudar International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 10 Issue 4, pp. 484-489, August 2017. ABSTRACT In this paper a compact ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with notch characteristics is presented which shows triple notches at different frequencies over the band of operation. By using C-shaped ground the overall dimensions of antenna is reduced to 24mm x 28mm x 1mm. Initially, inter-digital capacitance loading loop resonators with small size are implemented which give dual notch characteristics. Further, by inserting two parallel C shaped slits near feed line third frequency rejection band is achieved. Several properties of antenna such as impedance bandwidth, frequency notched characteristics, radiation patterns, and good gain have been investigated numerically and experimentally in detail. The proposed antenna covers the FCC defined UWB frequency range (3.1 to 10.6 GHz). |

4. | Impact of Buffer Driver Strength on Crosstalk Noise Propagation in Global Interconnects Swatilekha Majumdar and Jatinder Pal Singh Sahota International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 10 Issue 4, pp. 490-496, August 2017. ABSTRACT Shrinking technology has allowed the design engineers to come up with chips with large number of blocks compacted in smaller area, to have whole system-on-chip. This has led to close proximity of wires on chip giving rise to one of the crucial phenomenon affecting the circuit timing delay and functionality: the crosstalk. Crosstalk occurs due to the presence of coupling capacitance between the wires. Drive strengths of the cells put on wires is one of the prime factors determining the life of crosstalk bump. This paper gives an insight to the drive strength impact of aggressor, victim and victim's receiver on crosstalk bump in lower technology nodes. Our analysis show that the buffers added to the on-chip routing during the static timing analysis can be exploited to reduce the on-chip interconnect noise. We also analyse the effect of driver strength on the crosstalk noise. It can be seen that optimum buffer sizing is required to properly handle the issue of on-chip interconnect. Re-sizing the buffers by increasing the driver strength to 8X reduce the crosstalk noise by almost 80%, which significantly increases the system performance. |

5. | Cloud as an Enterprise IT Infrastructure Gautam Deb International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 10 Issue 4, pp. 497-502, August 2017. ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper was to identify and establish the capabilities of cloud computing as an enterprises IT infrastructure. One of the path-breaking shift that we saw in recent past was instigated by cloud computing. It changed the way how technology and infrastructure is procured, used, managed, and how enterprises pay for those services. The aspects explored here are, the various service and deployment offerings that cloud can provide, the advantages cloud computing used as an infrastructure brings on board for an enterprise, like low capital expenses, economies of scale, no capacity guesses, agility, reliability, security etc. We also explored, the various quality of service requirements for an enterprise system, which are fulfilled by a cloud, based infrastructure solution, like availability, manageability, flexibility, scalability etc. We saw how big enterprises in various domains like retail and finance are evaluating and adapting to cloud based services. In the light of all these advantages and the quality of service capabilities provided by cloud, we were able to establish how a cloud based solution can prove to be a valuable investment for an enterprise, allowing it to focus on its core business competencies and delegating non-functional system requirements implementation, like IT infrastructure, to the cloud. |

6. | Sliding Mode Control of Rotor Levitation in Hybrid Pole Bearingless Switched Reluctance Motor Polamraju.V.S.Sobhan, G.V. Nagesh Kumar and P. V. Ramana Rao International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 10 Issue 4, pp. 503-511, August 2017. ABSTRACT The bearingless motors (BMs) play an important role in the industries with sensitive and high purity environments due to their advantages of non-contact and lubrication free rotation. The simplest and most adaptable type of BM is the bearingless switched reluctance motor (BSRM). Design of robust control system to achieve steady levitation of rotor with reduced vibration and high-speed tracking is a challenging task. This paper presents the design and implementation of sliding mode controller for control of a 12/14 BSRM with hybrid stator pole structure. Two independent control systems are designed using MATLAB/Simulink to control the levitation force and speed of BSRM and tests including speed regulation, vibration control are performed. As indicated by the simulation results, the proposed controller levitates the rotor steadily at standstill and during accelerating to the desired speed when compared to the conventional PID controller. |

7. | Knowledge and Practice of Occupational Hazard Control Among Building Construction Workers in Lagos Metropolis, Nigeria Peter Oluwatoyin Adewale, Olasunmbo O. Adhuze International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 10 Issue 4, pp. 512-522, August 2017. ABSTRACT The study examined the influence of knowledge on health and safety management practices among the building construction workers in Nigeria. The main purpose of the study is to devise appropriate strategies by which the occurrence of preventable adverse events at the construction sites could be reduced to the barest minimum. Data were sourced through structured questionnaires administered on 150 bricklayers and 100 carpenters selected through accidental sampling technique. Participants were asked questions that tested their knowledge on safety management practices. They were also asked to rate their level of practice of hazard control using a 5-point scale. Frequency counts, percentage and mean were used to analyse the data. Pearson Product Moment Correlation(r) test was also conducted on the results to determine the relationship between knowledge and safety management practices. Results showed that 190 had poor knowledge, 49 had fair knowledge and 12 had good knowledge of hazard control. Regarding the level of practice of hazard control by the participants, 192 seldom or never practiced it, 46 fairly practiced while 12 practiced very often. Correlation coefficients indicate strong positive relationship between the two variables (r= 0.84 for bricklayers; 0.98 for carpenters). The study concluded that regular training and workshops that keep workers abreast of new trends and innovations in occupational safety measures and disaster management would make building construction workers to be fully practising hazard control at construction sites. |

8. | Comparison of Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient in Plain and Corrugated Pipe and it's CFD Analysis Prince Serrao, Harshal Pawase, Anand Prakash, Vishal Pandita International Journal of Advances in Engineering & Technology (IJAET), Volume 10 Issue 4, pp. 523-540, August 2017. ABSTRACT Shell and tube heat exchangers are used for convective heat transfer between two fluids, where one fluid flows through the tubes and other flows in the shell. Smooth pipes are usually used in shell and tube heat exchangers. Corrugated pipe provides more heat transfer as it increases the surface area and turbulence of fluid and hence increases the effectiveness of heat exchanger. Experiments have been carried out on plain pipe and corrugated pipe to determine overall heat transfer coefficient. Experimental results of the experiments performed on a smooth pipe and corrugated pipe have been compared using CFD analysis for the same conditions. Numerical analysis on plain and corrugated pipes has been performed using ANSYS FLUENT. |
