Infective Endocarditis: A Contemporary Study of Microbiology, Echocardiography and Associated Clinical Outcomes at a Major Tertiary Referral Centre
2020, Heart Lung and CirculationCitation Excerpt :Although our study is limited by a single-centre experience, our data includes consecutive cases of IE from a large referral centre servicing both metropolitan, regional and rural areas, and provides an updated profile of the clinical management of IE in this setting. There are a number of other Australian studies of IE, most of which are dated or focus on specific patient groups, limiting their generalisability to the wider IE population [17–25]. Given the changing landscape of IE, modernisation of local guidelines depends on robust prospective data on the clinical course of IE.
Infections Caused by Percutaneous Intravascular Devices
2014, Mandell, Douglas, and Bennett's Principles and Practice of Infectious DiseasesGlobal and regional burden of infective endocarditis, 1990-2010: A systematic review of the literature
2014, Global HeartCitation Excerpt :The initial search strategy yielded 1,975 publications, and 1,860 studies were excluded after careful review of full-text publications. One hundred fifteen citations [15–129] were included that were published in 10 languages. Tleyjeh et al. [117] reported on 4 different periods and thus accounted for 4 results from this 1 study.
Infective Endocarditis and Rheumatic Heart Disease in the North of Australia
2012, Heart Lung and CirculationCitation Excerpt :This is the first study to comprehensively describe IE in a northern Australian setting. The rate of IE was comparable to that seen in other Australian, American and European studies [2–6]. Given that the risk of IE increases with age in other populations [2,9], it is likely the younger age of patients in this study (median 45 years versus greater than 60 years in other studies [2,9]) served to mask a greater risk of IE in northern Australia.
