Abstract

A benzimidazole-based Co3+ complex was synthesized and evaluated as a sensor for I and HSO4- in aqueous media. The complex showed electrochemical changes with I over other anions, whereas it had a ratiometric response to HSO4- with UV–visible spectroscopy even in the presence of other anions.

The doublet at δ =7.59 ppm (assigned to C8 and C10 proton) and triplet at δ =6.24 ppm (assigned to C9 proton) in spectrum of S1 were shifted from δ ∼ 7.63 and 6.35 ppm, respectively, observed in the spectrum of the free PYR molecule [70]. A singlet of the double peak characteristic of two equivalent C2 and C6 protons was observed at δ ∼ 8.89 ppm while a singlet at δ =9.01 ppm was observed for C4 proton in spectrum of S1 [38–71]. A weak broad resonance signal at 12.86 ppm which usually occurs in the free carboxylate proton of DNBA can also been seen at 12.83 ppm in the spectrum of S1 as one free DNBA moiety is present in the crystal lattice.

  • Design, synthesis and anion recognition of ferrocene-based benzimidazolium receptors

    2014, Journal of Organometallic Chemistry
    Citation Excerpt :

Recently, a number of ferrocene-based benzimidazolium receptors have been reported [33–38]. The interaction between the benzimidazolium salts and anion is based on (C–H)+···X− type ionized hydrogen bonds [39], showing the C-2 proton in the benzimidazolium ring is relatively strong hydrogen bonding sites [40–44]. Such receptors formed by combining ferrocene with benzimidazolium moieties utilize both redox-active and hydrogen bond interactions to recognize anion [45].
