2019, European Journal of RadiologyCitation Excerpt :In 2007, Hiraki [7] was the first author to describe SAE in asymptomatic patients and to emphasize the necessity of a post-procedural CT scanning performed through the whole thorax, in order to depict systemic air embolism. Immediate recognition of SAE has been reported as the main factor to minimize severe complications since specific management of patient can be initiated earlier [7,12,13]. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively assess the incidence of systemic air embolism depicted on whole chest CT acquisition, systematically performed after percutaneous lung biopsy, in a large cohort of consecutive patients.
