Journal Club

YESS holds frequent online Journal Club discussion groups to increase the sharing of knowledge. YESS members can contribute towards a topic which allows discussion to be diverse. Meetings vary, ranging from analyses of ES journal papers, to the exchange of ideas, identifying knowledge gaps and advancing the understanding of the ES concept and its applications. These meetings are also an excellent social platform for members, and have resulted in strengthening our network.

Joining YESS

In short, it is the ambition of YESS to provide a “one stop shop” for Young Ecosystem Services Specialists. Who is considered young? An age limit is not applied, rather, young describes our dynamic and ambitious members who are relatively new in the field of ecosystem services, want to explore innovative ideas and extend their network. YESS membership is free, new members are always welcome, and members are encouraged to propose and lead activities or projects.

For the purposes of this paper, the authors surveyed an interdisciplinary group of ES researchers and practitioners – the Young Ecosystem Services Specialists (Böhnke-Henrichs et al., 2014) – eliciting their perceptions on the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of applying the ES concept for natural resource policy, planning, governance and management. YESS members are diverse, working across a wide range of ecosystems and disciplines, applying a variety of different methods and approaches to study and implement the ES concept (Böhnke-Henrichs et al., 2014).
